Love God, love others, and help others know and love God

At First Wesleyan Church, we believe God is already at work in every person’s life. Wesleyans call this prevenient grace. Before we ever take a step toward God, God is reaching toward us. His grace awakens us, invites us, and makes it possible for us to respond to Him.

That means you do not have to have everything figured out before you come to church. Whether you have followed Jesus for years, are returning to faith, or are not sure what you believe, you are welcome here. Come as you are. We believe Jesus offers forgiveness, new life, and a place in God’s family to everyone who turns to Him in faith.

Wesleyans call this justifying grace. Through Jesus, God forgives our sins, rescues us from the penalty we deserve, and adopts us into His family. We are made right with God not because we have earned it, but because of what Christ has done for us.

But God does not only forgive us. He also changes us.

Wesleyans call this sanctifying grace. Through the Holy Spirit, God helps us become the people He created us to be. As we follow Jesus, we grow in love, holiness, humility, and purpose. We become more like Christ, more devoted to God, and more willing to serve others.

That is why our ministries exist. We want to help people know Jesus, grow in their relationship with Him, find meaningful community, and live on mission in Bartlesville and beyond.
