Jesus brought Peter back to a charcoal fire—the setting of his greatest failure. He wasn't waiting there to punish Peter. He was waiting to restore him.

After denying Jesus three times, Peter was overwhelmed by guilt and convinced he'd disqualified himself. So he went back to fishing—back to the life he knew before Jesus called him. But Jesus wasn't finished with Peter.

After a night of catching nothing, a man on the shore tells the disciples to cast their net on the other side—and it fills instantly, just as it had the day Jesus first called Peter. Waiting on the shore: fish, bread, and a charcoal fire, the same setting where Peter once denied even knowing Jesus.

Three times Peter had denied Him. Now, three times, Jesus asks, "Do you love me?"—and three times recommissions him: "Feed my lambs. Take care of my sheep. Feed my sheep." Jesus doesn't just forgive Peter and let him fade into the background. He restores his calling.

God knew every mistake Peter would make when He called him—and called him anyway. If Peter could be forgiven and restored, failure doesn't have to be the final chapter of your story either. Jesus is still standing on the shore, asking the one question that matters: Do you love me?
